They served us every day and night for generations. They are the police, firefighters and paramedics who protect the people of Billerica. Often overlooked, these everyday heroes have made Billerica a safe place to live, raise a family or retire. Many times, they put their own safety in jeopardy for the lives of their fellow citizens.
Join us in remembering those heroes, especially those who have fallen in the line of duty— by creating a memorial in front of our Town Hall that will honor them with dignity and respect forever. The memorial will include a 7-foot tall Barre granite, keystone-topped monument that includes the names of police, firefighters and paramedics who have lost their lives in the line of duty along with an inspirational prayer. In addition, reflecting benches, bluestone paths and a special tributary marker etched with Leonard Buckland’s touching poem A Town Remembers will grace the site. |

This dedication poem by Leonard Buckland will appear onsite: A Town Remembers We pay this tribute to our fallen heroes Their names etched here in stone Who lost their lives in the line of duty Such a sacrifice stands alone Some fought fires—some kept the peace And some rendered first-aid In our eyes they will always be heroes For the sacrifice that they made At night when I hear the sirens wailing A shiver often runs down my spine As I think of those brave men and women Who everyday put their lives on the line |
